The operator of a slaughterhouse in Postville, Iowa, was hit with a Clean Water Act lawsuit in federal district court Monday for allegedly polluting nearby waterways.
The nonprofit group Driftless Water Defenders told the US District Court for the Northern District of Iowa that Agri Star Meat & Poultry LLC has violated and continues to violate the terms of its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit, which the Iowa Department of Natural Resources issued under the federal environmental law.
