Aetna Allegedly Used Covid Concerns to End Disability Benefits

Aetna Life Insurance Co. was sued in federal court by a Florida man who says the insurer terminated his disability benefits when he asked to reschedule an in-person medical exam until after he’d been vaccinated for Covid-19.

Kevin Dennis says he received disability benefits from an Aetna plan after experiencing pain following football injuries and a car accident. Aetna asked him to attend an in-person medical examination in December 2020 to verify his continued eligibility for benefits, but Dennis requested the examination be rescheduled because his pre-existing conditions and age made him “particularly vulnerable” to Covid, he claims.
