Advance Site NJ.com Hit With Suit Over Meta Data Collection

Advance Magazine Publishers Inc. improperly sends the viewing preferences of its video watchers to Facebook, a proposed class action alleged.

The owner of publications including NJ.com declined to participate in arbitration over the claim that it sent personal information collected by an advertising tool to Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc., according to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The plaintiff sought to represent a class of any “renter, purchaser, or subscriber” of Advance goods or services who viewed NJ.com video content and had a Facebook account. That class may include “thousands” ...
