Adobe Defeats Consumers’ Deceptive Subscriptions Suit, For Now

Adobe Inc. escaped a proposed class action alleging it deceptively hides the terms of its automatic subscription renewals for its software products.

Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley on Thursday granted Adobe’s motion to dismiss the suit from consumers, but allowed them to file an amended complaint within a month. Corley didn’t provide a written opinion for the ruling.

The consumers, lead by plaintiff Vikram Singh, alleged the software company violated Califronia’s Automatic Renewal Law, which requires companies to get customers’ affirmative consent before charging renewal payments, clearly state the terms of renewals, and provide an easy cancellation system.
