Seventeen domestic violence and sexual assault organizations from several states sued the US Department of Justice on Monday, alleging new conditions imposed on grant recipients to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive orders conflict with federal law.
The certification conditions are unconstitutionally vague and “untethered to any condition that Congress thought necessary or appropriate” for the grants, according to allegations from organizations including the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence and Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence in a complaint filed in the US District Court for the District of Rhode Island.
