- Suit alleges talent agents responsible for allowing assault

Ormond is bringing her claims under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which was signed into law in 2022. The law created a one-year lookback window during which survivors of sexual assault that occurred when they were over the age of 18 could sue their abusers, regardless of when the abuse occurred.
The suit marks the first time the talent agency Creative Arts Agency is being held responsible for its involvement in Weinstein’s assaults over the years, according to a press release from Ormond’s lawyers. Noted Hollywood agent Bryan Lourd, one of her agents at the time, is named in the suit.
Ormond’s agents at CAA, Miramax, and Disney each knew that Weinstein was a danger to women in the entertainment industry by the date of the alleged assault in 1995, the complaint says. But each of the companies failed to take action, as was their duty, to protect the actress.
When Ormond, who starred in the 1994 film Legends of the Fall, told her agents what Weinstein had done, they told her she wouldn’t be believed if she reported the alleged assault. CAA subsequently “lost interest in representing her,” according to the complaint.
Ormond is represented by Wigdor LLP, the Law Office of Kevin Mintzer, P.C., and Clayman Rosenberg Kirshner & Linder LLP. Wigdor and the Law Office of Kevin Mintzer have represented eight other victims of Harvey Weinstein.
The case is Julia Ormond v. Harvey Weinstein, N.Y. Sup. Ct., docket number unavailable, complaint 10/4/23.
