Actor Suzanne Somers’ Estate, Husband Owe $2 Million in Taxes

Suzanne Somers’ estate and her husband—television producer Alan Hamel—owe nearly $2 million in taxes as well as almost $786,000 in penalties for adjustments to their 1996 and 2001 tax years, the US Tax Court said Monday.

Before her death Oct. 15, 2023, the couple filed a petition with the US Tax Court challenging deficiencies related to changes to partnership items of Palm Canyon X Investments LLC.

Palm Canyon acquired Canadian dollars distributed to the Hamels. Subsequently, Thighmaster World Corp. claimed a $5 million loss and a $1.9 million flowthrough ordinary loss for the Hamels in 2001. The Tax Court had ...
