Academy Mortgage Customers Advance Suit Over 2023 Data Breach

Academy Mortgage Corp. must face a proposed class action alleging it negligently failed to protect the personal information of more than 284,000 customers and employees that was exposed in a 2023 data breach.

The plaintiffs alleged concrete injuries in their amended complaint that were sufficient to establish standing to sue in federal court, and adequately pleaded claims of negligence, breach of implied contract, invasion of privacy, and violations of state consumer protection laws of California, Washington, and Idaho, Judge David Barlow of the US District Court for the District of Utah said Wednesday.
