Abortion ‘Helpers’ Sue Alabama Over Threatened Prosecution (1)

Threats by Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall (R) to prosecute abortion funds and health-care providers that help people get legal out-of-state abortions violate the constitutional rights of these “helpers,” two complaints filed in federal court Monday say.

Yellowhammer Fund, an Alabama nonprofit abortion advocacy fund, sued Marshall in the US District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, saying his public threats have chilled its speech and activities. The group was established to help pay for abortions, but now limits its activities to providing community education, aid, policy advocacy, and community support, it says.
