A-Line Staffing Solutions convinced a federal court to dismiss a data breach class suit where workers alleged the contracting service was negligent in protecting Social Security numbers and employment info from cybercriminals.
The plaintiffs failed to demonstrate that any fraud or misuse of their data was sufficiently connected to A-Line’s 2024 data breach to sustain a negligence claim. Mere temporal proximity and correlation can’t establish causation for negligence claims, Judge Robert J. White said for the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
