L.A. Metro’s $730 Million Contract With Hyundai Targeted in Suit

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority improperly awarded a $730 million contract to a Hyundai Motor Group subsidiary, according to a lawsuit filed in California state court by a labor advocacy group asking the court to order a new round of bidding.

The L.A. Metro selected its contract with Hyundai Rotem USA Corp. using a “procedurally unfair bidding process” that drove down competition that otherwise promotes the creation of quality jobs, according to the complaint filed by attorneys for the nonprofit Jobs to Move America, which advocates for racial and economic justice in infrastructure work.
