Credit report, identity verification, and fraud detection service 700Credit LLC agreed to pay $17.5 million to settle litigation over a data breach that impacted about 5.8 million people, according to a motion for preliminary approval of the deal.
Cybercriminals used compromised 700Dealer.com credentials to acquire the personal data of customers of 700Credit’s clients, according to the settlement agreement filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan Wednesday. Proposed class counsel—Milberg PLLC, Kopelowitz Ostrow PA, and The Miller Law Firm PC—said the breach may have included Social Security numbers, birthdays, and addresses.
