3M, Aearo Have Drawn $120 Million From Insurers for Earplug Deal

3M Co. and its Aearo Technologies LLC subsidiary have settled with several insurers to obtain $120 million toward a $6 billion global personal injury settlement with service members who used the companies’ combat earplugs, according to a court filing.

3M and Aearo are still litigating against five insurers in a Delaware state court proceeding to recover more than $370 million in legal defense costs, the companies told the US District Court for the Northern District of Florida. Judge M. Casey Rodgers has been overseeing the service members’ hearing loss litigation in the federal court.
