Judicial Conference Approves Amendments, SCOTUS Next to Review Civil Rules Changes

The Judicial Conference of the United States met Sept. 16, approving and forwarding a package of proposed changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure to the U.S. Supreme Court for consideration. The proposed changes, including the hotly debated amendments to Fed. R. Civ. P. 37(e), are designed to reduce litigation costs and encourage early case management, as well as encourage parties and attorneys to seek the proportional use of discovery based on their cases’ needs. Rule 37(e), specifically, details remedies and actions available for the loss or spoliation of electronically stored information.
