OpenAI, Meta Targeted in Bill to Restrict Chatbots for Kids (1)

New bipartisan legislation would block artificial intelligence companies from providing chatbot companions to minors following harrowing testimony from parents who said the products abused their children and led to their deaths.

“This is a new frontier that will be a nightmare for the American family and American children unless Congress does its job,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) said Tuesday at a press conference introducing the highly anticipated bill. “We are here today to advocate on behalf of families everywhere, to advocate for sensible restrictions and regulations and guardrails that will protect our kids in this new age of AI tech.” ...
