Trumps Fires Back at Roberts, Standing by Partisan Judge Label

Donald Trump fired back at Chief Justice John Roberts for defending the federal judiciary against the president’s criticism that judges have partisan viewpoints.

“Sorry Chief Justice John Roberts, but you do indeed have ‘Obama judges,’ and they have a much different point of view than the people who are charged with the safety of our country,” Trump said Nov. 21 in a tweet.

Roberts issued a rare public statement earlier in the day after Trump decried an “Obama judge” who blocked an administration effort to curb asylum claims.

“We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges,” Roberts said in a statement released by the Supreme Court on Nov. 21 in response to a question from the Associated Press.

“What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them,” Roberts added. “That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for.”
