N.Y. Immigration Attorney Suspended for Misleading Clients

A New York immigration lawyer is suspended from the practice of law for one year for neglecting cases, not the three months recommended by a judge, a New York appeals court ruled.

Benjamin P. Bratter allegedly engaged in misrepresentation and dishonesty with his clients, as well as representing them incompetently and failing to communicate with them, according to the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division. He also didn’t cooperate with the disciplinary investigation, the court said.

Bratter contested the sanction before the judge who presided over the initial hearing.
