Louisiana Attorney With Conflict Gets Six-Month Suspension

A Louisiana lawyer who failed to get a signed conflict of interest waiver was given a mostly deferred six-month suspension, in part for not participating in the disciplinary probe.

In 2010, Bart Bellaire represented Olivia Rae Farms LLC and management in the purchase of a property from Josette Hanks. Bellaire went on to represent Hanks and her husband, Carlan Hanks, in other matters.

In 2017, Carlan Hanks asked Bellaire to help him buy the property back from ORF. The deal fell apart, and Carlan Hanks lost $40,000 of a deposit, which he sued to recover.
