The former owner of San Diego television station KFMB has been disbarred by California following her conviction in the “Varsity Blues” college admission scandal, the California Bar said Thursday.
Elisabeth Kimmel is one of dozens of parents across the US who were arrested in 2019 for allegedly paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to get their children into elite universities. Kimmel pleaded guilty in August 2021 to a single conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. She was sentenced last December to six weeks in prison and two years’ supervised release, and ordered to pay a $250,000 fine.
