California Bar Must Expedite Conflict of Interest Safeguards

The California Supreme Court ordered the state bar Wednesday to fast-track new, enhanced procedures to detect potential conflicts of interest for State Bar Court and Board of Trustee candidates.

The high court, which oversees lawyer admission and discipline, told the bar to craft amendments to California Rules of Court rules 9.11 and 9.90 to require committees that review candidates’ qualifications identify and assess each individual’s actual and potential conflicts of interest.
