Apple’s ‘NameDrop’ Feature Targeted in Patent Infringement Suit

Apple Inc. was hit with a lawsuit alleging several iPhone and Apple Watch models infringe a Ginko LLC data-sharing patent.

Apple’s “NameDrop” feature, which was rolled out in fall 2023 and allows users to wirelessly share contact information by bringing devices near each other, practices US Patent No. 11,025,573, Ginko said in its complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.

Ginko is seeking unspecified compensatory damages, a permanent injunction barring Apple from further infringement, enhanced damages if warranted, attorney’s fees, and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court.
