Administration Protests Group’s ‘Side Deal’ With DTE Energy (1)

The Trump administration is urging a federal court to reject an “improper” legal deal between the Sierra Club and DTE Energy Co.—the latest example of the Justice Department’s ongoing efforts to rein in environmental settlements.

Agency lawyers filed a brief Wednesday asking the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan to reject the Sierra Club’s proposed “side deal” with the Detroit-based energy company in long-running litigation over air pollution from its coal-fired power plants.
