ZTE’s USA unit was told to pay Maxell Ltd. $43.3 million following a patent infringement trial in Texarkana, Texas.
Maxell claimed that ZTE’s smartphones and tablets, including the ZMax 2 and Axon 7, infringed seven patents.
ZTE denied infringing the patents and argued they didn’t cover new inventions and, thus, were invalid.
The patents cover image stabilization, video resolution, audio technology, walking navigation, and power management, said Maxell lawyer Jamie Beaber of Mayer Brown in Washington.
