A British YouTuber’s mocking use of a comedian’s video from Hillary Clinton’s 2016 election night party was allowable as fair use under copyright law, a Manhattan federal court ruled.
Carl Benjamin—a.k.a. Sargon of Akkad—made legal use of Akilah Hughes’ video as transformative criticism, the court said.
Hughes’ YouTube channel covers topics including “comedy, race, social commentary, feminism, beauty, and fashion,” the court said.
