XTO Energy Will Pay $4 Million to Settle Clean Air Act Lawsuit

An Exxon Mobil Corp. subsidiary will pay $4 million to resolve the government’s allegations that it violated the Clean Air Act by allowing pollutants to be emitted into the atmosphere in western Pennsylvania.

The pact will resolve the suit brought by the federal government and Pennsylvania, which are seeking injunctive relief and civil penalties from XTO Energy Inc., according to the proposed consent decree filed Thursday with the US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
