Worlds Inc. can renew arguments that game distributor Activision Publishing Inc., not game developer Bungie Inc., is really behind patent-validity challenges at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, an appeals court ruled.
The dispute is over three patents for computer-generated displays of avatars in a virtual world.
Worlds had sued Activision, claiming Call of Duty game infringes the patents, and later said it would add Bungie’s Destiny game.
Bungie filed a petition challenging these and other patents, arguing they didn’t have new ideas.
Activision would be time-barred from filing the challenges itself. Bungie is not.
