Wikimedia, Internet Archive Drop WordLogic Text-Patent Fight

The Internet Archive and the host of Wikipedia dropped their lawsuits in San Francisco federal court seeking judgments that they don’t infringe WordLogic Corp.'s predictive-text patents.

Wikimedia Foundation Inc. and Internet Archive both sued WordLogic in March, allegedly in response to WordLogic threats of patent infringement litigation over the sites’ predictive search boxes.

The plaintiffs argued WordLogic’s four patents were invalid based on prior art, and that they didn’t infringe even if the patents are valid because their search functions don’t perform all of the patents’ required steps.
