Warner Brothers Entertainment Inc. and DC Comics Inc. beat back a copyright lawsuit from a writer alleging the 2022 film “The Batman” infringed his work.
A New York federal judge ruled plaintiff Christopher Wozniak, not the companies, ripped off protected material. Wozniak, a writer and illustrator whose work appeared in “Superman” and “Justice League” among other titles, infringed DC Comics’ copyrights in Batman characters and story elements when he applied to register a copyright for a Batman story he’d created and pitched to the publisher, District Judge Paul.
