Walmart Sued by American Eagle Over Jean Stitching Trademark (1)

American Eagle Outfitters accused Walmart in Pennsylvania federal court of adorning its women’s jeans with a confusingly similar design to American Eagle’s “unique, distinctive, and proprietary pocket stitching design.”

American Eagle said in a complaint entered Wednesday that it’s the largest women’s jeans brand in the U.S., and that Walmart’s misuse of its mark on a line of lower-priced jeans threatens its reputation.

Consumers have “come to recognize jeans not just by the name on the label, but by the design on the back pockets as well,” the complaint said. American Eagle said it has been using its signature back-pocket ...
