WakeMed Health & Hospitals agreed to pay $2.45 million as part of a court-approved settlement to resolve class allegations that the North Carolina health-care provider improperly provided Meta Platforms access to patient data.
The litigation accused WakeMed of using Meta’s “tracking pixel,” code which allegedly allowed the tech giant to collect health data based on user actions on WakeMed’s websites for marketing and advertising purposes. The case went on for about three years before Judge Adam M. Conrad of the North Carolina Superior Court, Wake County granted final approval to the settlement Monday.
