Volvo Loses Bid to Trim Hybrid Car Patent Infringement Lawsuit

Volvo Car Corp. failed to convince a Maryland federal district judge to trim infringement allegations in a patent lawsuit over hybrid vehicle technology.

Judge Richard Bennett in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland said Paice LLC and the Abell Foundation adequately alleged that Volvo indirectly, and willfully, infringed three patents. The ruling preserves those claims in the suit.

Paice and the Abell Foundation, a Maryland non-profit that has invested in Paice, sued Volvo in December 2020. The suit alleges certain Volvo hybrid vehicles, including the XC60 SUV and S90 sedan, directly and indirectly infringe three patents.
