Volkswagen Alleges Cyberpiracy Over Similar Web Domain Names

Volkswagen Group of America Inc. has sued over three website domains, alleging the names are confusingly similar to its sites.

The complaint was filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on Thursday against accesaudi.com, acessaudi.com, and knowmyvw.com.

Volkswagen says the anonymous operators of the domain names are committing cyberpiracy in violation of the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act and misappropriating its trademarks for Audi and VW. The company says the domain names cause irreparable harm because they can be used for phishing and are “virtually identical” to its official websites.
