VLSI to Appeal its Loss in Intel Administrative Challenge

VLSI Technology LLC plans to appeal an administrative ruling that wiped out 12 of its microchip patent claims that are also part of a patent infringement lawsuit against Intel Corp. in Northern California.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board has taken two passes at Intel’s challenge to the patent in question—US Patent No. 8,020,014, which relates to power reduction of a cache memory during low-power mode. On its first go, the tribunal rejected each of Intel’s challenges to the 12 VLSI patent claims.
