VLSI, Intel Want Texas Judge to Rule on Patent License Defense

Intel Corp. and VLSI Technology LLC are making competing final pushes for a Texas federal judge to decide whether a 2012 patent license agreement relieves the chipmaker from infringement liability exceeding $3 billion.

Fortress Investment Group’s acquisition of Finjan Inc. “triggered” Intel’s rights to use VLSI’s patents due to the prior licensing agreement the chipmaker had with Finjan, Intel argued in a June 27 motion made public Monday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.
