A Texas inventor sued smart-home company Vivant Inc., alleging infringement of a security-system patent by its doorbell cameras and other products.
Vivint is willfully infringing US Patent No. 7,583,191 with its video doorbell products, security system components, accessory devices, and related services, according to Duke W. Zinser’s complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The ‘191 patent, which expires in 2027, covers technology for remotely monitoring a home’s entryway and communicating with visitors using a mobile device.
