Vivint Defeats ADT’s Bid to Halt Imports of Smart-Home Systems

Vivint Inc.’s security monitoring and automation control panels will avoid an import ban after the US International Trade Commission said it would pass on reviewing an administrative law judge’s finding that ADT Inc. failed to prove the accused products infringe its patent.

The judge on April 22 issued an initial determination granting-in-part Vivint’s motion for a summary determination of no violation, finding ADT failed to establish infringement by the accused products, according to a notice posted Wednesday to the ITC’s electronic docket.

The judge found that the “processor” limitations of the asserted claims “require at least one processor that ...
