Video Game Platform Sues Florida Man for ‘Patent Troll’ Behavior

Valve Corp., which operates the popular Steam online gaming platform, filed a preemptive lawsuit against Miami-based inventor Leigh Rothschild, alleging a Rothschild-affiliated limited liability company threatened the gaming company with litigation in spite of a 2016 licensing pact.

In February 2022, Daniel Falcucci, an executive at Patent Asset Management, “began sending numerous emails and messages to members of Valve’s legal team” and “requesting that Valve execute a new license with Rothschild and his various entities for more money,” according to the complaint filed July 7 in federal court in Seattle.
