Polish video game developer C.I. Games SE asked a California federal court to rule that its game “Lords of the Fallen” doesn’t infringe the trademarks or copyrights of the “Lord of the Rings” movie franchise owned by Warner Bros. Discovery Inc.
In a preemptive lawsuit filed in the Los Angeles-based Central District of California, C.I. Games said it received cease and desist notices from WBD claiming that a planned sequel game to “Lords of the Fallen” will “ride on the coat tails” of the “Lord of the Rings” franchise.
