Valve Corp. and Gearbox Software LLC were hit with allegations their video game products violate several patents covering a system for electronic devices to retrieve information when a barcode or QR code is detected.
The video game developers have worked together for years on the games Half-Life and Counter-Strike, Symbology Innovations LLC said in a complaint filed Sept. 15 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Valve and Gearbox’s products use similar methods as Symbology’s patents to retrieve information using codes on devices, according to the complaint.
