Viasat Defeats SanDisk In-Flight Entertainment Patent Dispute

Viasat Inc. prevailed in a three-year patent infringement dispute against multiple SanDisk Corp. subsidiaries over in-flight entertainment and communications systems.

Judge Haywood S. Gilliam Jr. granted Viasat’s motions for summary judgment of noninfringement for US Patent Nos. 9,424,400 and 10,447,667, according to a lengthy 41-page orderfiled Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

Gilliam also found SanDisk Technologies LLC lacked standing to assert the two patents and US Patent No. 8,504,834. The parent unit should’ve dismissed the LLC from the dispute, the judge wrote.
