Vermont Data Privacy Bill With Right to Sue Vetoed by Governor

A Vermont privacy measure that would have given residents the right to sue companies over some violations was vetoed Thursday by Gov. Phil Scott (R).

The bill (H. 121) would have been among the strongest state privacy laws for consumers. Nineteen other states have enacted laws that generally give consumers the right to know what data a company collects on them and to opt out of certain uses.
