Verkada Escapes Patent Suit on Tech for Overcrowding Alerts

Verkada Inc. convinced a federal judge in California to dismiss a patent infringement suit over systems that detect crowd safety risks and flag them for emergency personnel.

“In light of the claim chart Plaintiff attached to its complaint, its infringement claims are not plausible,” Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley wrote in an opinion issued Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. She granted Verkada’s motion to dismiss the case but gave ALD Social LLC—which acquired the patents from Comtech Telecommunications Corp.—20 days to file an amended complaint.
