Verizon Unit Owes Aspen $190 Million for Infringing Wi-Fi Patent

Cellco Partnership, doing business as Verizon Wireless owes Aspen Networks Inc. $190 million for infringing Wi-Fi calling technology.

Verizon’s VoWi-Fi service infringed US Patent No. 8,009,554, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas jury determined Thursday. The verdict form was entered in the docket Friday.

Apsen sued Verizon in December 2023, alleging the wireless carrier’s use of its protected technology has allowed Verizon to provide uninterrupted calls and avoid the expense of building more cellular towers.

The court consolidated the dispute in 2024 with Aspen’s suits against T-Mobile USA Inc. and AT&T Inc. for pre-trial matters. ...
