Verisk Told to Pay $125 Million in Aerial Imagery Case (2)

Verisk Analytics Inc. must pay at least $125 million for infringing aerial-imaging patents owned by Eagle View Technologies Inc., a federal jury in New Jersey said.

The jury, which reached its verdict on Sept. 25, also found that the infringement by Verisk and its Xactware Solutions unit was willful, so the judge may triple the amount.

The technology is used to create three-dimensional models from aerial images of roofs. Those are then used to estimate the costs of roof repairs, without having contractors or adjusters physically climb and measure the roofs.
