Ventria Wins ITC Ban on Chinese Rival’s Engineered-Rice Imports

The US International Trade Commission issued an order blocking imports of a Chinese company’s clinical-grade, genetically-engineered rice seeds for medical uses after finding they infringe a patent held by Kansas developer Ventria Bioscience Inc.

Wuhan Healthgen Biotechnology Corp. is barred from importing its plant-based albumins, or rHSA, and products containing them until the patent, which covers cell culture media containing combinations of proteins, has expired, the ITC said Monday. Bloomberg Law estimates the patent will expire in February 2030.
