USAA Knocks Out PNC’s Mobile-Banking Patent in Board Challenge

The United Services Automobile Association extended its winning streak against PNC Bank Tuesday as an administrative tribunal invalidated claims in a mobile tech patent the bank had asserted in litigation.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board held that nine claims from PNC’s US Patent No. 7,949,788 are unpatentable in light of earlier patents.

That includes two patent claims that PNC asserted against USAA as counterclaims in a patent suit decided in September 2022.
