US Asks Court to Stay Proceedings on Alabama’s Trans Care Ban

A federal court in Alabama should pause the state’s gender-affirming care ban litigation given the “quickly evolving nature” and the “exceptional legal landscape” surrounding such laws, the US said Monday.

Attorneys for the US, which intervened to argue against the law, told the US District Court for the Middle District of Alabama that it should wait and see what happens in other cases that have challenged similar laws in other states—especially in light of three petitions for review filed in the US Supreme Court.

The case currently is scheduled to go to trial in August 2024.
