UMG Recordings Inc. agreed to end its suit alleging investment company OpenDeal Inc. was infringing on UMG’s “Republic” trademarks.
UMG, which owns the Republic Records music label, sued OpenDeal over its Republic-branded services that allow consumers to invest in artists and earn royalties on their music. UMG added Ditto Music Pte. Ltd. as a defendant in an August 2022 amended complaint, claiming the allegedly infringing Republic services were being offered through Ditto’s blockchain platform Opulous.
