United Bank’s Win Against Targeted Ad Patent Claims Affirmed

United Bank won a Federal Circuit appeal on Thursday after it escaped claims that it infringed a patent covering the delivery of targeted advertisements.

Groove Digital Inc. owns U.S. Patent No. 9,454,762, covering a method for delivering targeted content, such as ads, by sending alerts or notifications to an end user’s device over a network. It sued United Bank alleging infringement in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
