Uniclass Didn’t Infringe Computer System Patents, Court Says (1)

Substantial evidence supported a jury’s finding that Uniclass Technology Co. didn’t infringe two ATEN International Co. patents related to switch systems that allow the control of multiple computers from a single setup.

ATEN failed to challenge Uniclass’s improper expert testimony on the scope of relevant patent language, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit said Aug. 6. The appeals court reversed the jury’s decision to throw out claims in one of ATEN’s patents, however, finding that Uniclass didn’t prove that another invention predated the claims.
